10 Gifts for the Car Enthusiast in Your Life

At times, holiday gift shopping can be a little difficult. It can be hard to know just what people want or need. If there is a car enthusiast in your life, or maybe a teen who has just gotten their first car, we have put together a list of 10 gift ideas they might enjoy this holiday season.

  1. Roadside Emergency Kit

Show you care with a gift that ensures their safety. Give your new driver or car lover a roadside emergency kit to help protect them in the event of a breakdown or accident. You can purchase premade kits or make one on your own. Make sure there are things like a flashlight, Band-Aids and other first aid items, jumper cables, and reflective triangles or flares. Including some non-perishable food items, blankets, and a shovel may come in handy too. This is a present you hope gets little or no use, but they will be glad they have it if the unexpected happens.

  1. Roadside Assistance Membership

This goes along with the safety aspect and, if you can afford to do both, would go along nicely with the roadside emergency kit- but works well as a stand-alone gift as well. Worry less when your loved one is on the road with the knowledge that if something should happen, they have quick access to help. For a limited time, AAA Arizona is offering $32 off gift memberships. AAA memberships include:

  • 24/7 Roadside Assistance with the fastest average response time in the industry
  • Coverage in any car, anytime – as the driver or a passenger
  • Exclusive member discounts on shopping, dining, and entertainment
  • Expert vacation planning
  • Member-only travel benefits
  • And more!
  1. Floor Mats

Okay, so this may not sound like the most exciting gift, but someone who REALLY loves their car will appreciate the gift of a custom, all-weather floor mats. Good floor mats will protect the vehicle’s interior from the elements, dirt and grime, and everyday wear and tear. Simply take down their vehicle make, model, and year and you can order them a nice set of custom floor mats that complement their taste and vehicle nicely.

  1. Road Trip Package

Do you have a loved one who drives around a lot or who takes a lot of road trips? Surprise them with a homemade road trip package. You can fill a basket with some of their favorite, easy to eat behind the wheel snacks, a travel coffee mug, an iTunes or Google gift card so they can choose some new road trip tunes, a cell phone car charger, car air freshener, maybe a roll of toilet paper for the rest stops that may not have any, and anything else you can think of that can make their road trips more enjoyable.

  1. Race Car Driving Experience

Most car enthusiasts will thrill at the idea of getting behind the wheel of a super-fast car! If your loved one would prefer to be a passenger rather than drive, the Phoenix International Raceway offers both driving and ride-along experiences.

  1. Sun Shield and Ice Scraper

As a Phoenix, AZ resident, the sun shield may make sense to you, but you may scratch your head at the idea of an ice scraper. We suggest this because Arizona is huge! If your loved one plans on traveling up north to Prescott, Payson, Flagstaff, Williams or the like, especially in the winter, an ice scraper will come in handy! Your loved one will appreciate that you are protecting both them and their vehicle from the winter elements. Brushing snow and ice off a windshield with your hands will lead to cold or frostbitten fingers, and no one wants that! The sun shields will come in handy here in Phoenix, especially in the summer. The scorching hot sun will not only make the interior of the vehicle extra hot, but it could damage their vehicle’s interior. A sun shield will help to minimize the heat and keep the interior protected. Sun shields can be fun too as they often come with different designs and patterns, so you can choose one to match your loved one’s personal taste.

  1. Model of Their Favorite Car

We know, you would prefer to buy them the actual car, but that is usually unrealistic. So, get them the next best thing. There are plenty of amazing model cars for sale online or you can purchase them a kit to build their own at a place like Michael’s or Hobby Lobby.

  1. Car Memorabilia

It doesn’t matter if they prefer a Chevy or a Porsche, you can find memorabilia associated with it somewhere. There are items available from t-shirts to ornaments to coffee mugs to mouse pads and more. Help your car enthusiast show their love for the car of their choice wherever they may go. Car accessories that have their favorite sports team are another great option, like these Arizona Cardinals seat protectors.

  1. Car Detailing

Car enthusiasts everywhere will tell you, things can’t get much better than a car that shines like new. So, why not gift them with a gift card to have their vehicle detailed? Car detailing is a luxury that many people don’t often spend money on, so it will be highly appreciated. Or, if you’d prefer, you can build them a kit of supplies with which they can deep clean their car themselves, or offer to do it for them. Nothing says “I love you” quite like manual labor.

  1. Automotive Services

Taking care of a vehicle can get expensive, and this time of year when everyone is purchasing gifts for others, automotive services may be put on the back burner. Ease the strain on your loved one’s pockets by gifting them with a service at Virginia Auto Service this holiday season. We are your go-to in Phoenix, AZ for reliable, high-quality auto repair services. Call (602) 266-0200 or schedule an appointment online.

How to Remove Oil Stains from Your Driveway

Two of the biggest investments a person will make in their life is their home and vehicle. As such, we want to make sure that we are taking care of both properly and regularly to keep them both at their highest value. Unfortunately, one can wind up being quite a nuisance to the other if it is not adequately maintained.

Oil stains on the driveway are unsightly and can put a damper on a homes’ curb appeal. The best way to avoid staining the driveway is to have regular maintenance performed on your vehicle. When you have regular preventative maintenance performed on your vehicle you can catch a potential leak before it starts, saving you money and saving your driveway. If, for some reason, the signs that your oil may begin leaking are missed and you wind up with a spot on your driveway, there are ways that you can try and remove it.

Here are six ways to remove oil stains from your paved driveway:

Oven Cleaner

Oven cleaner can be used to remove oil stains from the pavement. Simply spray the oven cleaner over the oil stain until it is fully saturated and allow the oven cleaner to soak in for at least 15 minutes. Take a hard steel brush or hard bristled brush and scrub at the stain using as much muscle as you can muster. As you scrub, you will see the stain start to disappear. Scrub until you no longer see a spot. It is not uncommon for an oil spot to seemingly reappear, it is just some of the more deeply soaked oil making its way to the surface. If this happens, you can repeat the process to completely eliminate the stain.

Dawn Dish Soap

Pour Dawn dish soap over the oil stain and let sit for about 10 minutes. Use a large, hard bristle brush to scrub the stain until you see the oil pulling from the asphalt then rinse with a hose. Repeat if needed until the stain is gone.

Powder Laundry Detergent

Completely cover the stain with the detergent. Sprinkle it with a little warm water so that the powder will mix and use a hard brush or strong wire brush to scrub the detergent into the stain. Once the detergent has mixed with the oil let it sit for an hour so that the detergent can really penetrate the oil. After the hour spray the detergent away with a hose. Repeat if necessary.

Coca-Cola

This method is not great for old, deep, and large stains. However, if the stain is small and has just occurred, Coca-Cola can be a pavement saver! You need only take a can or two of Coca-Cola and pour it over the stain before you go to bed. Allow it to sit overnight. In the morning you can rinse it with water and the stain should be gone.

WD-40

Spray the stain with WD-40 until completely covered and allow it to sit overnight. In the morning you can rinse it away and in most cases, there will be no signs of the oil stain remaining.

Baking Soda

Cover the stain completely with large amounts of baking soda then scrub with a steel brush. You may find it a bit fascinating as the baking soda begins to turn black. After you have scrubbed for a good 10 minutes or so allow the baking soda to sit for at least a half an hour then rinse with a hose. Repeat if needed.

Remember, the best way to protect your driveway is to keep up with your vehicles’ regular maintenance schedule. Virginia Auto Service is here to help you with your automotive maintenance and repair needs. We are your go-to in Phoenix, AZ for reliable, high-quality auto services. A Mother’s Day Gift Guide for a Mom on The Go

Between work, running errands, and shuffling kids to and from school and practice, moms have very little time to think about their vehicles.  Why not lend mom a helping hand this Mother’s Day? From vehicle maintenance to detailing, to accessories, we have put together a list of gifts that are perfect for the mom on the go.

  1. Vehicle Maintenance

Mom is busy. Ask her if there are any maintenance items that she has been putting off. Does she need an oil change, an alignment or tire rotation? When is the last time her vehicle had a tune up? Bring her car down to Virginia Auto Service and we’ll help you take care of it.

  1. Car Wash

If she is all caught up on vehicle maintenance, consider washing her car. You could bring it to a professional car wash, or do it yourself. You can also consider gifting her with a basket of automotive care supplies.

  1. Detailing

If you want to splurge a little bit, you can have her vehicle detailed. Detailing is the performance of thorough cleaning, restoration, and finishing of an automobile, both inside and out, to produce a show-quality level of detail. You can often find discounted detailing services on Groupon.

  1. Make an Emergency Roadside Kit

And, the QuickMount holds mom’s phone with a quick click, and releases with a simple twist.

9 Steps to Transport Your Christmas Tree with Minimal Hassle

If you haven’t already, it is now the time to decorate for Christmas! If you are like me, you like the smell and authenticity of having a real tree to trim for your home. Unfortunately, getting the tree home from the lot isn’t always an easy task.

Virginia Auto Service AZ Blog: 9 Steps to Transport Your Christmas Tree with Minimal Hassle

Here are nine steps that will help you successfully transport your Christmas tree with minimal hassle:

  1. Bring gloves. You will want to protect your hands from the sharp pine needles and sticky sap so gloves are a must. You may want to consider wearing long sleeves as well.
  2. To make the tree more manageable to transport, and to protect it from the wind, have it netted at the lot.
  3. Make sure to select a tree that will either fit inside your cargo/bed area or on top of your roof properly.
  4. Protect your paint, and the tree’s foliage, by placing a tarp or blanket on the roof of your automobile or in the bed of your truck.
  5. Place your tree in the truck bed with the trunk facing towards the cabin, or on the roof with the trunk facing the engine for a more streamlined drive.
  6. Ensure that you have enough rope or cord to wrap around the tree and secure it to the roof. You should also know how to securely tie the tree to the roof of your car. We find this video helpful.
  7. Give the tree a good, strong tug before you leave the lot to make sure it is secure.
  8. Don’t place a tree inside your vehicle. If it rubs against you, it can be both irritating and distracting. Also, you will find pine needles in the little nooks and crannies of your vehicle for months!
  9. Drive like there is a tree strapped to the roof of your car! Drive slowly and avoid the highway if possible, especially if you aren’t used to hauling heavy objects. If you fail to drive slow and steady, your tree may become damaged, or even lost. Remember that when you transport a Christmas tree your vehicle’s center of gravity is shifted which can affect the emergency handling of the vehicle.

Virginia Auto Service loves to help you with your vehicle in any way we can, we hope you find these Christmas tree transport tips helpful. For high-quality auto repair services, give the experts at Virginia Auto Service a try. Call (602) 266-0200 or schedule an appointment online.
